Luke Whitfield’s first guitar was a 1966 Fender Mustang in Lake Placid Blue with racing stripes. In 1973, his parents bought it as a bribe to improve his school attendance. This worked, until it didn’t. Over the years, his focus zeroed in on retro and vintage guitars. Luke became a self proclaimed ‘vintage freak’ and began customizing guitars to give them an old school vibe. Trial and error led ted to effective restoration methods and realistic aging became Luke’s specialty as well as his love.
Originally a builder, historic integrity and honest materials easily transitioned from working on homes to creating custom guitars. Like a well built home, Rebel Relic Guitars are meant to feel lived in and grow old gracefully.
In Luke’s Rebel Relic Amsterdam shop, guitars are faithfully created in the old fashioned way. According to Luke, musicians can tell the difference between factory built and custom creations from a mile away. The difference, he says, is the secret ingredient that he adds to each Rebel Relic guitar. That ingredient is love. Luke puts it in, the guitar gives it back.
