The TVJ pickups were to replace some P-90s that I was using in my Fender Jim Adkins Tele. This is a quite an unusual Fender in that it's a semi-hollow body with with a 24 3/4" scale set neck. However, with the P-90s the guitar was just too dark, which I think is a due to the wood and construction. I'd heard the TV Jones pickup on many demos on youtube and decided to give them a try.
I bought the TV Classic Plus for the bridge and originally, a Super'Tron for the neck thinking that it would be a good fit for the Tele. As it turned out, the Super'Tron was just a bit too heavy, and not enough brightness, likely due to the increased induction from the blades and then ordered the TV Jones Classic. (I'll hang on to the Super'Tron to use later.)
The Classic in the neck turned out to be perfect. Not too dark, and actually not as twangy as I expected. Plunky, but full might be a good way to describe it. The sound of the Classic Plus bridge and neck is pure vintage.
It has turned out to be a great match for this guitar. The P-90 covers fit perfectly and the sound has given this guitar a good bit of jangle and a new lease on life.
