Super'Tron Neck DeArmond Mount

  • Super’tron - neck - Dearmond Mount

The TV Jones Super'Tron is a replica of the original early 1960’s prototype design. It is basically a TV Classic with steel blades instead of pole screws and the resulting tone retains classic Filter'tron clarity, but with a bold and full broadband punch. Bridge blades are curved and neck blades are flat for optimal string to string energy.

    Tone/Characteristics

The steel blades used in the Super'Tron provide a larger magnetized surface area producing greater inductance. While the DC Resistance is the same as the TV Classic, you will notice a little more output and body with a slightly more accentuated lower-mid range. Warmer and less aggressive than the mid 1960’s Gretsch Super’Trons (which had a bunch of thin laminated steel blades instead of one piece of steel). Great choice for finger picking, jazz, punk, blues... it has been said that this design was loved by Chet Atkins (according to Paul Yandell).

    Installation:

The DeArmond Mount is a direct drop-in replacement for standard sized Dynasonic/DeArmond 2000 style pickups. This pickup comes with two pieces of foam shims for height adjustment. DeArmond Mounting Screws are sold separately if necessary. Please refer to the Tech Specs tab to learn more.

  • Output/Power

DC Resistance is not entirely an indicator of true pickup output, although it can be helpful.

    Bridge: DCR - 4.8k / Inductance - 2.64H

    Neck: DCR - 4.0k / Inductance - 1.81H

    Wiring Notes

The Super’tron is shipped with 4-conductor wire but is ready for standard 2-conductor connection. The extra red and green wires come soldered together and taped off - to split coils, send these to ground.

Splitting coils is generally not recommended for the Super'Tron due to low coil output but some say it works well due to higher coil inductance (because of the steel blades). 4-Conductor wire is also convenient for custom switching i.e. pickups combined in series or parallel.

    Helpful Notes

Dynasonic/DeArmond Replacement:The DeArmond Mount is a direct drop in replacement for Vintage DeArmonds, Dynasonics, and most other DeArmond 2000 style pickups.

Filter'tron Replacement: Replacing Filter’Tron-style pickups with DeArmond Mount pickups is not optimal.

Mounting Screws DeArmond Mounting screws are sold seperately because most people use the ones already on their guitar. If you need new or extra screws, you can find them in our products section.

Good Lord!

This thing is insanely great. Got it for the neck position of a DeArmond M77T. Now I actually use the neck pickup. Fit perfectly. Combo with a TV Classic Plus at the bridge sounds great!

Transformed a great guitar into a simply amazing guitar!!

I put a pair of Super'Trons into a Dearmond equipped Gretsch Masterbuilt Penguin. Wow what a difference. The guitar was no slouch with the stock pickups but the pickup swap made it amazing. The Super'Trons still had some great sparkle but the increased muscle in the mids and lows really brought this guitar to life!! The pickups were as well crafted as any I have ever seen and the fit was spot on. TV Jones is no joke. If you are looking to make a serious upgrade to your tone then go ahead and grab some TV Jones pickups!!

Great Option!

Alright, yet another great TV pickup!

Pickup: Super-Tron Dearmond Mount in the neck of a Guild Starfire I hollowbody.

This replaced a TV-classic dearmond mount, which had replaced a TV T-Armond, which had replaced the original 1962 Dearmond pickup.

What can I say, all 3 of the TV jones pickups have sounded great, just depends on the style you want.

T-Armond: Great tone, really powerful. For me it had too much power! I am playing mainly jazz on this guitar and wanted more Traditional tone, so swapped for the Classic...

TV-classic-Dearmond Mount: also sounds great. This got me closer to the tone I wanted. Warm and Bright and veratile. a Great pickup, but I had to keep going, and TV sites "tone guide" was pointing me to the Super...

TV-SuperTron-Dearmond Mount! WOOHOO! Tone heaven. Its still clear as a bell like all TV pups, but its got that classic jazz warmth too. I love it! Bonus: this thing just looks so badass in the Dearmond mount!

Great Pickup!

I also recently put the T-style pickup in the neck of a Tele, also a great pickup!

thanks,
Paul

SuperTron is Super indeed

This pickup replaced a vintage Dearmond DynaSonic in the neck position of a modified Gretsch 6119.
It retains all the big, bold clarity of a Dearmond single coil, but with no hum.
It's uncanny how good this unit sounds in comparison to the vintage unit it replaced.
String balance is good, although you woundn't think that would be the case with two fixed-blade polepieces. With minor adjustment, I got the unit to balance flawlessly, and I'm fanatic about string balance.
This unit has all the top-end"air" that is lacking in many jazz humbuckers. It also mates nicely with the stock bridge "PowerTon" which came on the guitar originally.
The SuperTron is exactly what I was looking for sonically and dropped right on the instrument with no further modification.
Just a superb unit!
