TV-HT Bridge Universal Mount

  • TV-HT - bridge - Universal Mount

The TV-HT is our take on the famed Gretsch HiLo’Tron pickup. This single-coil pickup is made close to the original but with a bit more output in the bridge position. This gives the sound more integrity and push - often what players wanted from the original HiLo’Trons. These pickups are also made to be hum-cancelling in the middle position (when both are on).

    Tone/Characteristics

Twangy, clanky single-coil goodness with a touch of natural midrange. The TV-HT is designed to produce twangy bass and crisp highs perfect for that old school sound, but also surprisingly cool with a lot of gain (due to its low output and translucent clarity). If you are a player who likes it crystal clear with a nice ‘n tight bass response (even more so than the TV Classic and Magna’tron) - these are for you.

    Installation:

The Universal Mount is a direct drop-in replacement for standard sized Filter'trons - with and without "ears" or “clips”. This pickup comes with two pieces of compression rubber, 2 mounting (wood) screws, and the Universal Mount Clip Pack which includes everything you will need to mount the pickups to your ring or pickguard. Please refer to the Tech Specs tab to learn more.

  • Output/Power

DC Resistance is not entirely an indicator of true pickup output, although it can be helpful.

    Bridge: DCR - 4.3k / Inductance - 1.85H

    Neck: DCR - 3.4k / Inductance - 1.22H

    Wiring Notes

This single-coil pickup is shipped with 2-conductor wire.

    Helpful Notes

Filter'tron Replacement: The Universal Mount is a direct drop in replacement for Vintage Filter'trons, HS Filter'trons, Fideli'trons, Mega'trons, Full’trons and any other standard sized 'Trons (including our old No Ears & English Mount). Blacktop Filter'trons require one Dual Screw Mount Adapter per pickup in order to attach to their stock rings. When replacing Broad'trons and Gretsch-Buckers, you will need a new EM2 Ring.

Replacing Vintage HiLo’Trons: You may need a “short cover/no backplate” option to replace HiLo’Trons on some vintage Gretsch guitars. Feel free to call at 360-779-4002 and we will be happy to walk you through the process and help you place the custom order.

Post-2012 Electromatics: One Dual Screw Mount Adapter per pickup will be necessary to mount our Universal Mount pickups to your stock ring.

Streamliners: These guitars are made with "Gibson-style" rings instead of standard Gretsch rings. You will want to choose either our EM1 or EM2 Ring to replace these when installing a Universal Mount Pickup (this depends on which style you prefer). If you choose the EM2 Gretsch Style Ring you will also want a pack of Ring Risers.

Gretsch 5120/5122: New Rings and Ring Risers are necessary for this guitar due to it's high neck angle. You can find those in our Products section.

Pre-2012 Pro Jets: These will require some specific modification in order to install Universal Mount pickups. You can refer to our Pro Jet Resource Page which is in the Resources section.

Humbucker Replacement: To replace standard Humbuckers, pair this Universal Mount with one of our EM1 (Gibson-style), EM2 (Gretsch), or EM4 (Fender-style) rings.

Rockin all over the world

Having already a stock TV jones in my anniversary gretsch i wasn't content with the attack of the bridge pickup bein also a huge fan of fender stratocasters so hearing the clips on the tv jones site of the TV-HT is decided to give it a try and it is exactly what it says : raw overdriven sounds and far more snappy then a humbucker can be if you want high output skip it but else you get superior detail and in your face clean and overdrive walhalla !

TV HTs for President!

The TV HTs are slightly hotter than the Gretsch Hilo'trons; the biggest difference coming from the bridge pickup. I like them because of the natural sounding frequency response, especially in the top end of the range (no harsh upper mids) and the way they seem to compress when pushing the amp or played through an overdrive pedal. Also, because they have a slightly lower output compared to a lot of other pickups, they are very quiet. I have TV HTs in two of my Gretsch guitars and TV T-Armonds in a third one.
