T-90 Neck - No Ears Mount

  • T-90 - Neck - No Ears Mount

The T-90 is our answer to the traditional P-90 pickup that combines a classic design with a touch of TV Jones sparkle and clarity. The result is a full & fat sound with clear, transparent overtones.

The bridge pickup has thicker highs and more defined lows than what is commonly heard from traditional P-90s. We use two Filter'Tron bar magnets, as well as Filter'Tron pole screws and wider pole-to-pole spacing on the bridge pickup. This provides more inductance for a thicker tone and plenty of dynamics. The neck pickup has two thinner bar magnets which contributes to its clarity and warmth. It is considerably less boomy than traditional P-90s.

The No Ears Mount is a direct drop-in replacement for any standard size Filter’Tron style pickups that mount directly into wood. This pickup ships with mounting screws and compression foam for adjustment. To learn more about the No Ears Mount, check out the Tech Specs tab.

TV Jones T-90

I finally purchased the T90 neck pickup about a year after replacing the Blacktop Filtertron in the bridge position. It wasn't just personal taste. There was something wrong with the Filtertron. The highs sounded like an icepick and the lows like mud. The nicest thing I could say about it is that it was dead quiet. No hum. When I decided to replace it I was on the fence about the TV Jones Classic and the TV Jones T90. Even though I already have more than one semi-hollowbody with P90 pickups I still went with the T90. I know to get that "authentic" Gretsch tone you are suppose to have the Classics but I don't play Rockabilly (even though I like it). I play rock n roll and to me there is only one pickup that is truly a rock n roll pickup and that's a P90. When I finally got it installed and wired correctly the dead silence of the Filtertron gave way to the hum of a single coil. It doesn't bother me though. I'm used to it and you don't notice it playing. The T90's had that P90 tone but something a little different about them. For one they didn't run as hot as a lot of P90's, which I liked. They were also a lot fuller and fatter sounding than any other P90 that I've heard or played through. Sometimes I wonder if I should have put the classics on instead but there is no denying the T90's sound great. I can't say for certain but they sound probably like a cross between a P90 and a Filtertron. I definitely prefer them over the stock pickups. Which brings me to my biggest complaint. Not against TV Jones but Gretsch. I know it isn't a White Falcon or a Chet Atkins or Country Gentleman but it still is a thousand dollar guitar. To me that is an expensive guitar and I shouldn't have had to change anything on it. I must have got one made at 4:45pm on a Friday afternoon. Thanks to TV Jones pickups they made the unplayable sound great. Lynn was also very nice and helpful and the delivery was super fast. I had the thing 2 days after it was shipped.

TVs in a Cabronita!

Paired the neck T90 with the bridge Super'Tron in my Cabronita and WOW! Match made in heaven! The T90 has the clarity and punch you'd expect from a traditional P90 but it's a fatter, more full sound and I find it a bit warmer too. Definitely has the TV Jones flavour to it which is awesome! I've always found a traditional P90 in the neck position to be a little thin, lacking the body and fullness but not with this pup!

My whole thing about playing the guitar , there has to be a reaction between the amplifier and your electronic guitar. Little thing called sustain, when the amplifier is hot and your pick up is just as hot then your musical note can be held indefinitely.
I call it finding the sweet spot. And that's exactly why I only played TV Jones......Sylvain Sylvain New York Dolls
