Power'Tron Plus Bridge Soapbar Mount

  • Power’tron Plus - Bridge - Soapbar Mount

When Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top called up and requested an even hotter bridge pickup that could handle his fiery riffs, we knew we had to take it to the next level. The Power’Tron Plus is the hottest Filter’tron pickup we make and perfect for everything from creamy blues, to hard-rock, to metal. It's a bridge position only pickup that pairs extremely well with Power’tron, T-90, and even T-Armond neck pickups!

Designed with standard PAF magnet wire to resemble a hotter Gibson PAF Humbucker (in the 8.5k DCR range) while retaining the core Filter'Tron characteristics. The lows are tighter and more defined than a traditional Humbucker but it barks and growls generously when digging in. Lastly, it cuts through the mix really well for solos and chunky riffing.

The Soapbar Mount is a direct drop-in replacement for any standard size Soapbar style pickups. This pickup ships with mounting screws and compression foam for adjustment. To learn more about the Soapbar Mount, check out the Tech Specs tab.

  • Output/Power

DC Resistance is not entirely an indicator of true pickup output, although it can be helpful.

    Bridge (only): DCR - 8.5k / Inductance - 5.25H

    Wiring Notes

This pickup is shipped with 4-conductor wire but is ready for standard 2-conductor connection. The extra red and green wires come soldered together and taped off - to split coils, send these to ground.

Splitting coils works extremely well with the Power’tron Plus due to higher coil strength. Additionally, the 4-Conductor wire is convenient for custom switching i.e. pickups combined in series or parallel.

My new favorite bridge pickup!

Love the attitude this pickup has... it’s like an optimized humbucker, all the crunch with a clarity and 3 dimensional quality that’s just spectacular!

Power'Tron Plus Bridge Soapbar

Excellent, as always!

Killer Pickup!

I recently acquired a pre-owned Collings 360 in which the first owner had installed Power'trons in place of the stock Lollar P90s. I figured I might put the Lollars back in, until I plugged it in. I was blown away by the sonic range of the P'trons, from fat lows to punchy mids to shimmering highs dripping with harmonics. However, the neck pickup was slightly louder than the bridge. A quick check of the T.V. Jones website, and I found the Power'tron Plus. Fast forward to today, I just got the guitar back from the fine fellows at the Repair Zone here in San Diego, new P'tron Plus installed. I took it to band practice, and blew everyone's minds, myself included. The guitar is so powerful now that it will overdrive my Fender Deluxe Reverb at about two and a half on the volume knob. My drive pedals took the night off, as this new sound made them obsolete. Just a little clean boost was all I needed for solos, and the tone was incredible. So, final analysis: As a connoisseur of boutique pickups, these are the best sounding, most useful humbuckers I've ever played. Rock on, T.V. Jones!

Thick Punchy Tone! Recommended!

I was looking for a P90 with thick mids and growl without the hum...I put this Power'tron Plus Soapbar in the bridge position of my Music Man Albert Lee MM90 guitar, and it is the sound I had in my head...and it is the sound described by TV Jones. Excellent!

Power'tron/Power'tron Plus

I like the sustain and playability of a Les Paul, but have always found PAFs to be a little too thick and lacking in definition, and P90s lacking in refinement. A Ptron/Ptron+ combination was the perfect solution- most of the sonic weight of a PAF, but with the sparkle and clarity of a filtertron. From a cleaned-up twang, through a smooth crunch to a singing high-gain, Powertrons sound great in a Les Paul. Sort of combines the best of a filtertron Gretsch Jet with a PAF Les Paul- love em.
