I’ve never owned a guitar with TV Jones pickups but have always loved the sound of the early gretches. So when I was having this custom built they seemed like an obvious choice and i tell you, it was a wise one. It’s loaded with classic filtertrons and they are a treat to play everyday!

Hi all, I’m a Custom Guitar builder from up North (!) and I have been using TV Jones (mostly Classics) on quite a few of my archtops with a LOT of good comments from my customers. It looks like people are starting to re-discover how pleasant can be the sound of an “electric guitar” without distorsion pedals! Here are some pics of some of my instruments. Much more can be found on my website http://www.laplanteguitars.com. I’d be happy to answer any questions, and would definitely appreciate your comments. Tx.

This thing is a monster, love the Classictrons! (Although they did cost more than I paid for the guitar!)

Hello Friends–this is my first post on this forum. I love TV Jones pickups. I have three guitars in which I have installed various TV Jones pickups. The first is my Gretsch 6120-1960 that sports a pair of TV Classics; my Gretsch 6128 Elliot Easton Duo Jet has a Classic in the neck and a Classic Plus in the bridge; and–here’s one that you might not see every day–a Gibson SG Classic with a TV Jones Powertron in the bridge. My next purchase will be one of the new P90′s for the neck of the SG.

I recently upgraded my Gretsch G5120 with TV classics and a Hot Rod pickguard. This axe has now a real killer sound ! Great job Tom, thanks for enabling electromatic owners like me to have the real Great Gretsch Sound!

Well, here’s the fruits of my labour …
’07 Epi Sheraton Natural w/TV Classics. Loved the look of the EM-1 mount over the HB mount PUP so shoe-horned these into the stock bezel with some mouse-mat under the bezel to hide the lateral gaps. I was just about able to get the PUP height at the recommended level so it’s turned out great and I’m well pleased with the overall aesthetic. A splash of lemon oil on the fretboard has really set it off nicely.

The tone is SO much better. Clear and full, with none of the muddyness of the stock humbuckers.

Here’s a great example of a Gretsch Pro Jet modded with TV Jones Pickups sent in by Jimmy H. You can find all of the parts to replace your mini humbuckers here.

Hi I was just wondering if it’s fine to install the TV Jones Classics into my Gretsch G5120 without buying a new wiring harness. what I mean is do I need a different wiring harness or should it be ok?
You don’t need a new wiring harness. Adding a new wiring harness would improve the fidelity by about 10% but it’s not totally necessary.
I want to mod my pro jet with tv jones pickups but all of the photos show pro jets with different bigsbys than what comes on it. Can you still sit a pair of tv’s into a factory standard pro jet w/out putting a better bigsby on it? do i need to change the bridge?
thanks
I have a Hagstrom Super Swede withHumbuckers.Cap
How would it sound with TV Jones Classics for Rockabilly, Country Texas Blues ?
Hi – great with this site!! I’ve just bought a Gretsch Country Classic 2 mounted with TV Jones Magnatrons – I like that sound!
BUT – is there supposed to be that much HUUUM? It is humbuckers (but with the sound of singlecoils as I have understand it?) And when the standby switch is in “off” mode – theres even more hum….no go! Someone may have done a bad job in there….
Is there a drawing of the harness/connections for this model anywhere?
Thanks – Jan Irhøj, Denmark.
Dear Sirs, I just bought myself a nice Gretsch Electromatic (it is one of the last to be made with the Elliott Easton specifics, but without his signature, since apparently the deal was already finished). I would love to change the pickups with TV Jones ones (althought they don’t sound as bad as I feared they would). I don’t know much about these pickups, but I’ve heard great comments about them and I woild love some tips. I mostly play rock and blues. Which ones would you suggest and do I need to buy the covers too, in order to fit them in what look like bigger spaces? Thanks very much. Seba
I searched for so long for the Gretsch G2626 Electromatic SparkleJet but no one still sells this kind of guitar… maybe you´ve got an idea where i can buy this guitar for not so much.

Dear Doreen
Dear TV
Any chance y’all are gonna develop your version of the old foil DeArmonds ala Harmony Bobkats & Rockets ?
Also to all old style Pro Jet owners, the TV T-Armond in soapbar mount is an easy, perfect fit alternative for those guitars …FWIW
I love the options you offer, keep up the great work
Can you (or do you) make the T Armond as a direct replacement for humbuckers? Would love to put them in my Guild Starfire III. Or, are there adapter rings available that work along with humbucker mounting rings? Thanks, Jack
Thanks TV Jones, I just finished replacing my stock pickups on my 5122dc with a classic in the neck and a classic plus in the bridge, all I can say is WOW!!!!!! Now I too have that Great Gretsch sound.
